All Shall Be Well

Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art
Special closing reception, February 2022

“This was a fun series to do. I didn’t have a big concept in mind when I looked around the studio. Rather, I let each piece develop without any preconceived notions. Initially, I thought of the show as being a collection of “one offs” but that didn’t last long as the paintings began to fall into informal groupings.

Two notable things happened during this time. First, I became surer than ever that my best work falls into a space between painting and sculpture and second, in the process of using a jigsaw to ‘cut’ and alter my shapes, I became intrigued by how close this felt to drawing.

The joy of doing this work in the middle of so much uncertainty prompted the title of this show which is from Julian of Norwich – ‘All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.’”
