Small Works
In these small, acrylic on panel paintings I combined geometric abstraction with painting themes and ideas I have worked with for many years.
I started each piece by creating spaces I imagined to be rooms in a gallery or museum. Then I began to “hang” miniature, square and rectangular shaped “paintings” on the “walls” of the gallery/museum. Some of the miniature paintings already existed in the form of small fragments from larger landscapes done over the years and featuring the nuanced color we expect to find in nature. But I also created new works allowing for more playful shapes and color.
Each of these “gallery” paintings ended up being full of surprises, not the least being a strong acknowledgement of new directions in my work.
