Acrylic paintings

In these acrylic paintings on paper and panel, I use the color, light and geometry of the Louisiana Gulf Coast to connect an actual place with an internal or emotional landscape.

The small, south Louisiana town of Cocodrie, Louisiana, in La Fourche parish, with its luminous expanse of marsh, sea and sky is my point of departure for this body of work. While in this small fishing town, I take photographs as well as paint but when I return to the studio, it is the memory of the place and my emotional state, more than anything, which informs the work.

The seasons in a coastal landscape provide much room to experiment with color and the ever changing weather is an opportunity to use the intense values changes that have always interested me, no matter the subject.
